1892 the artist James Ulric Walmsley settled with his family in Robin Hood’s Bay, and made a meagre living by painting portraits, landscapes and postcards, mainly for the summer visitors. His youngest son Leo became a famous writer in the 1930s, writing about what he knew best – the fishing families of the village. His book “Three Fevers” was filmed in the village in 1935, and we shall hear the full story – this was J. Arthur Rank’s first feature film, the foundation of the global Rank Organisation.
