The History of the Yorkshire School for the Blind 1833 – 1956

7th March
Anne Parkinson
The story of Disability History is hardly ever told. This talk celebrates the highest philanthropic principles of our Victorian (and later) forebears and focusses on the abilities, rather than the disabilities, of the children who attended the Yorkshire School for the Blind.  The School was one of the first of its kind, teaching blind children in suitably adapted ways. It welcomed children from all over Yorkshire, helping them, eventually, to take their rightful place amongst the growing ‘community of workers’.
