The talk will take a brief look at the background to the care of the mentally unwell until the introduction of county asylums; categories used to admit someone to an asylum and how to access records of an ancestor.
Demographics of inmates from Stanley Royd Hospital will highlight reasons for admission and an example of life in an asylum.
Please note that contemporary terminology is used which is not acceptable today.
